Other Members of Your Healthcare Team
The Radiation Oncology Nurse will give you specific instructions related to your care during radiation therapy. You will meet with one of our Certified Oncology Nurses on a regular basis to discuss any problems, questions, or concerns that you have about your health. Using their clinical expertise and clinical judgment, they will assess how you are doing and help you cope with the changes you are experiencing.
The Medical Physicist assists the
medical team with the technical aspects of delivering
the prescribed dose of radiation to your body. The
Physicist is responsible for assuring the accurate operation
and maintenance of the clinical accelerators (radiation
treatment machines) and other radiation equipment used
to deliver your treatment. The Physicist performs
safety checks on the equipment on a regular basis.
The Medical Dosimetrist peforms calculations for the accurate delivery of the Radiation Oncologist's prescribed dose, documents pertinent information in the patient record, and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations using a system established by the Medical Physicist. The Dosimetrist performs, or assists in, the application of specific methods of radiation measurement as directed by the Medical Physicist.
The Radiation Therapist is the person
who will deliver your treatment in accordance with
the Radiation Oncologist’s
instructions. You will see them on a daily basis,
and they are able to address concerns you have about
treatment. The Therapist maintains your daily
records and checks the treatment machines to make sure
they are working properly.
